From Beginners to Advanced riders
Unlike most trainers who aspire to ride at the top levels of their sport, Jerry Lee Sewell particularly enjoys teaching new riders, backyard riders, and those who never intend to set foot in the show ring. His clinics are suitable for a wide spectrum of riders — beginners, intermediates and advanced riders on green and trained horses. He teaches such skills as: ground driving, roundpen work, longeing, leading, loading, mounting, sitting and posting trot, loping and hand gallop, cavaletti training, collection, trail riding over obstacles, feeding and management. When you attend or sponsor a clinic, you help select the subject matter.

Teaching Specific Tasks & Skills
Some of his clinics involve teaching a horse one specific task, such as trailer loading. Jerry Lee also works with the owner so he/she won’t lose ground when the horse goes home. Other clinics may focus on an equitation element such as a balanced seat, sliding stop, or flying lead change.

Young Horses and Problem Horses

At some clinics, he demonstrates starting young horses under saddle, riding them himself. Having started hundreds of horses, this is often accomplished more quickly and safely than if done by an amateur. It removes the risk an owner may feel when making that huge leap to riding a young horse for the first time. He’ll also take on the difficult and tricky tasks of fixing problem horses.
Sometimes complete retraining can be accomplished in a short clinic, but often more training is needed. Horses who need more work can go into training at his ranch near Smithville, Texas. Training is priced on a daily and monthly basis. There are several very affordable plans to choose from, and lessons can be included if desired.

Horse-in-Training Costs (monthly)
Rides and lessons are 45-minute sessions. Pasture board is $250 per month. Stall board is $320 per month. Boarding is only available to horses in training. Toward the end of the training period, the owner may take lessons on his horse in lieu of the horse’s training session with Jerry Lee. This helps the owner transition once the horse goes home. A dated training log for each horse is maintained and emailed weekly to the owner.

Safety is Paramount
Jerry Lee makes rider safety a number one priority. He doesn't push people beyond what they can safely do, and won’t teach unsafe practices. His goal is to build confidence in the horse and its rider or handler. The lesson is always geared to the ability of both horse and rider, not someone’s ego.

Teaching in Foreign Languages

Jerry Lee is competent in six foreign languages. If you employ foreign ranch workers, or host foreign diplomats, executives, or travelers that want to learn American training methods, he will instruct in their native language. These languages include: Spanish, Portuguese, French, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Hmong. Feel free to email Jerry Lee in any of these languages to arrange your clinic or event.
